McLeod Ganj is a small hill-station situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh, named after David McLeod, once the British Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab. This is home to the Tibetan community and the center of tourist activity. It is also known as upper Dharamshala since it is 15 kms ahead of a town called Dharmasala. McLeod Ganj is at almost at an altitude of 8000 ft. road. The most fertile and undulating valley surrounded by hills on three sides and a valley in the front is the beautiful hill station of Dharamshala. The climate of Mcleodganj is very congenial. It is very cold in winter as the Dhauladar range of hills at over 15000ft is close by and is covered with thick snow during winter. Mcleodganj, the little Lhasa of India, as it is commonly known as, is responsible for bringing Dharamshala into prominence. This charming Tibetan settlement carries a distinctive colonial air and is famous as the dwelling of His Holiness, Dalai Lama.
